Sir Michael Caine is one of the best British actors on the big screen, starring in Blockbuster films such as the Italian job, Batman Begins and Jekyll & Hyde. The star rose to fame in 1964 for his role in the movie Zulu, which made him one of the most sought after men in Hollywood.

After his roles in Alfie and Gambit, he immediately became iconic for his Debonair Aura and Infection Care and defined an era on screen heroes with his effortless charm. During his decades on the big screen, he has played several recognizable leading and supportive roles, later starring in Christopher Nolan’s world in pictures such as Interstellar and Inception. Still, while he has become critically acclaimed for his countless roles, the actor has lifted the lid on one of his greatest disappointments.

In light of the recent Oscars, there have been ongoing debates about the true meaning and effect of such a prize, where Mikey Madison won after her breakout performance in Anora, leaving Timothee Chalamet empty.

For Michael Caine, however, the actor was recognized not once, but twice by the academy, winning the best supportive actor for Hannah and her sisters and the Cider House rules.

Despite the impressive results, the veteran actor was left behind and felt a little dissatisfied with the fact that he never won an award for a leading role. When he reflected on his awards over the years, he confessed: “I never won a leading Oscar. I have two Oscars, they both support, which is very nice.

“But I have been nominated four times to a leading Oscar and you get tired of sitting there and losing, you know? I sit there with that smile on my face, the same sick smile and say, ‘Well done!’ “

In addition to his functioning skill, Caine is also an avid reader, especially of thrillers – a passion that has even led him to write his own novels and memories.

In a 2023 interview with The timesCaine shared some of her literary favorites and gave insight into the authors who have kept him turning pages over the years.

He expressed his love for fast, gripping stories and revealed that he has read almost any major thriller on the market. Caine told the business: “Some of my favorite thriller writers include Tom Clancy, Lee Child, John Grisham and Michael Connelly.”
